Meet LAKSHMI --- An innocent girl from a small time village had travelled to this cosmopolitan city along with her siblings and parents in search of peace, health and wealth. After turning in to the city she realised that life in this very city is not a bed of roses. Every time her parents would do a hard day of labour they get to eat a mere morsel of food. Sometimes even that is also deprived as her parents were not paid the daily wages on time.
Living this life in the city for LAKSHMI was tough. She opted to support her parents earning by adapting to begging. She used to take her siblings along with her to collect money and support her day to day activities. Season went by and days went by she got accustomed to begging and started living a private life.
It was late evening and the month of July, it was heavily pouring. LAKSHMI and her siblings had not earned much even after begging throughout the day. They were deprived even for a glass of water. With thirst and hunger at its peak – they almost were about to faint. Just then their tired eyes looked at a couple descending from a car and distributing food for dinner. LAKSHMI was approached by the couple with two plates of dal rice for her and her sibling.
She just grabbed the same and pounced on it. It had been a while she had a hearty meal in the city. The couple were none other than Mr & Mrs. Pushpendra Kumar. They had a casual chat for the night and left back home. It was the following night that Mrs. Shweta Pushpendra Kumar had initiated a small conversation with LAKSHMI on why she is begging and setting a bad example for her sibling. She was able enough to work and earn her living.
LAKSHMI replied stating that no was willing to give her work and hence she found her forte in begging. Mrs. Shweta Pushpendra Kumar affirmatively said to LAKSHMI that she will invest money in procuring raw materials for small scale business which she can do it at home and then sell it at a reasonable price in the market. LAKSHMI readily agreed and the journey started from then on. LAKSHMI sells garlands made out of real flowers, embroided Chudidars, hand painted diyas for seasonal festivals.
From that day on to till this day she and her siblings had never turned back to begging. BHAGYA VIDHATA FOUNDATION has many such Rags to Riches stories to bring it to your notice.
